What are my options now? Why don’t they let us know about this critical need for activation when we download the iso? Friday, November 1, PM. Please check your installation media” Is the evaluation only valid for tech net subscribers? Hi, According to your description, we did a test for that.
Best regards, Susie. Thursday, October 31, PM. I agree with cguan – try downloading a different copy. The evaluation copy should not be asking for a key. If it is asking for a key, either you do not have an evaluation copy, or the copy you have has something wrong with it. Tim is right. I simply connected it to the internet and after a day, the expired version was automatically activated for days.
Problem solved. Saturday, November 2, PM. In the week was trying to install this. The link in technet first downloaded win r2 preview Second attempt it downloaded Win R2 std, causing all the frustration. But, it does sound like the image you downloaded may still be an issue if you still ended up with a problematic installation.
Others have found that their ISPs may have cached a corrupted image, so no matter how many times they download from your ISP, their always get their ISP’s corrupted cached copy. If you want to install the evaluation copy again, you may want to go to a coffee shop on the other side of town, or some other place that does not involve your ISP to see if you can download a copy that is not corrupted.
Tim, I can’t let you blame this on my ISP or the Internet and then mark your response as the “answer. Both ISO files booted just fine and weren’t corrupted. The problem was that one prompted for a Product Key and the other one didn’t. Long story short: You did not provide the answer; rather, Frederick did by spotting the differing ISO versions. Then I had to figure out the problem with the disks not formatting correctly but that’s a different topic I never said I did provide the answer.
I never mark my responses as probable answers – I want the person it is directed at to make that determination. As for “blaming” your ISP or the internet, I was just stating a fact that others have run into.
If that is not your situation, that’s fine. As for the disks not formatting correctly, I almost always let the installation procedure format the disks. First I ensure that the proper disk driver is loaded – the proper disk driver may not be on the Microsoft distribution for a variety of reasons, primarily because it is up to the hardware vendor to provide that – and then I delete any existing partitions on the target disk and let the installation procedure format.
When I have done this, I have never had a failure on disk formatting. Here’s the URL that I found. The install now has a screen listing the various server evaluation versions. I agree that some of the responses here are from people who haven’t downloaded the wrongly staged ISOs from Microsoft lately. Oh well. Beware of people who lists a lot of fancy certifications and titles under their names. Looks like an illegally posted copy of the operating system and other software.
Windows Server is licensed software. I seriously doubt that site is licensed by Microsoft as a download site, meaning you now have a pirated copy. And, who knows what sort of malware that site may have inserted into the distribution you downloaded. I lost track years and years ago how many times I have installed the various flavors. Only installed a few dozen times in the last week using downloaded versions.
If you reviewed other posts about people who have had issues, you will even find that I made the effort to download the very version they were having difficulty with and then performed the installation.
Then I posted the file hash from my downloaded version so they could compare it to what they downloaded, and they found a mismatch. The issue is not the Microsoft web site. As stated here and in other posts, it is most likely a cached version somewhere in the path between you and Microsoft.
Others who have had the issue have successfully resolved the issue by downloading via a different ISP or going to a coffee shop across town. That will generally find a different path which bypasses the cache server that contains the corrupted copy.
