Audirvāna Studio x iFi audio – iFi audio
Audirvana Plus main window is composed of 4 zones: 1. Top: The transport controls e. Play, Pause, Next and currently playing track info 2. Left: The Play Queue list of tracks currently playing , the whole Music library, and the hierarchical list of playlists 3. Center: The albums, or tracks list view of the item selected on the left 4.
Right: If visible, the metadata editor of the selected item s in the center. TimeMachine, Spotlight, Note that this one is not enabled by default. This button becomes a pause button when playing. Keyboard shortcut: Space. Pause: Pause the playback. This exactly means output silence to the device, and pause playback. Please note the audio device is still active and fully controlled by Audirvana Plus. This button becomes a resume button Play icon when in pause mode.
Stop: Fully stop audio playback, release the audio device, and restore the deactivated OSX services. Below these buttons is the volume slider to control the audio volume level. If the device provides no volume remote control and dithered volume control is not enabled in user preferences, the volume control slider is not shown.
The currently playing track info is composed of: – The album cover art thumbnail when available. Clicking on the image opens a popup window with the full scale image of the album art. Time information is given on the bottom line: – Elapsed time in minutes:seconds on the left – Track total duration or remaining time on the right, switching between the two is done by clicking on it – The graphical cursor moving from left to right, representing the current play position o Dragging the playing position cursor or clicking directly on a different position makes the playback seek to this position.
Best possible quality. SysOptimizer is automatically stopped on minute after playback has been fully stopped. Playlists Hierarchical list of folders of playlists. The playlists can be reordered in the hierarchy using drag and drop operation. These criteria are defined in the window that pops up. Note that only the playlist tracks found in the library will be in the newly created playlist o Edit Smart Playlist: Pops up the window to edit the criteria to select the tracks that are in the selected playlist o Delete Playlist: removes the selected playlist o Export playlist…: Saves in a playlist file M3U format references to the tracks in the playlist to be exported.
Adding tracks to the Play Queue Any track, playlist, album can be added to the end of the Play Queue by drag and dropping them on “Play Queue” on the list on the left of the main window Double clicking on a track, album will start playback with it, replacing the Play Queue with: – the album tracks when double clicking on an album, or a track in an album in album view mode – the playlist or whole library tracks when double clicking on a track in tracks list view mode.
The Play Queue can be reordered by drag and dropping tracks to their new place in the queue. In addition, tracks from outside the library can be directly added to the Play Queue. Just drag tracks from iTunes, or files, playlists. These tracks are not added to the library, they are just in the Play Queue. The tracks are shown in a list view, with the displayed columns as selected by the user.
Doing this will add the column as the first sort criteria in the order shown by the small arrow. In this view Options window, the list shows the sort criteria by decreasing order of priority. The priorities can be reordered by dragging sort criteria to their new place. The structured filter is made of successive filters, ordered from left to right. The items selected in the first filter give a filtered list of tracks that provide the values for the second criteria.
And so on for the next ones. So this enables to narrow the search by successive steps. And so on Selecting a blank criterion disables the specific filter, and is the equivalent of selecting the “All …” line in the values of the filter. DeleEng tracks By pressing the Backspace key, the selected tracks are moved to the recycle bin of Audirvana Plus.
This also removes the track from any playlist it was referenced in. The corresponding audio files are untouched, but their tracks are no more visible in the library, except by view the Recycle bin. Albums view The albums view presents the albums by their front cover image also called album artwork when available, with their title, and below the album artist or composer as selected in the view options.
The size of the front cover image is adjustable with the slider located at the bottom left of this view. The album front cover image can be modified by dropping an image on the album displayed one either in the albums collection view, or in the album tracks view The two buttons located at the bottom right are visible when grouping is enabled see below for more.
And these metadata are used throughout Audirvana Plus to filter and sort on album information. Some audio files may be missing album metadata information e. They are grouped by folders into albums that use the folder name as title, and the folder parent name as artist name.
This enables all to use all the display, navigation and search features with them. Metadata is saved into the audio files when editing it. Album vigneUe acEons By moving the mouse over an album vignette, three active controls are revealed:. Clicking on it pauses playback if this is the currently playing album, or starts playing back this album otherwise. The tracks list is sorted by track number and the rows are grouped according to the “Grouping” or musical piece information. This enables to quickly see the pieces and their movements e.
When different composers are on the same album, the composer is displayed inside parentheses on the “Grouping” row. Dragging a grouping row to the Play Queue or a playlist will take all the tracks inside the grouping. Clicking on it will change the album rating. Note that to set rating of value 0, the easiest way is to drag the value with the mouse to the left like if it was a cursor. The behavior of the album tracks list is otherwise the same as the general tracks list view.
As for the tracks list view, the sort order of the albums can be configured in the list presenting the sort criteria by decreasing order of priority. The second line below the album front cover image can be chosen between the album artist, the artist, and the composer note that in case of an album with different composers, only one of the composers or artist is displayed In addition, the first sort criteria can be used to split the album list in groups, by selecting the “Automatically group albums using the first criteria” option.
This gives a view of albums as shown below:. Each group can be collapsed, showing only the group title with the number of albums in it, or expanded to reveal the albums of the group by clicking on the arrow on the left of the group title line.
All groups can be collapsed at once or expanded by clicking on one of the two buttons located at the bottom right of the view. Note that albums that have tracks belonging to different groups will be split among those groups. Switching views, highlighEng playing track Switching between view types list or album is done by selecting the view type by clicking on the wished one as shown below:.
In any view, the currently playing track can be highlighted when present in the currently viewed playlist by using the “Scroll to playing track” command of the View menu, or using Cmd L shortcut. It presents the list of tracks that have been deleted from the library see Deleting tracks for how to , sorted by album and track number. Restoring tracks back to the library By clicking on “Restore selected tracks” button, the selected tracks will be placed back into the library.
DeleEng permanently tracks By pressing on the “Delete selected audio files” button, the audio files corresponding to the selected tracks will be deleted from disk. Warning: For local volumes this will mean the audio files are moved to the trash, but for network shares, the audio files will be deleted permanently. An additional warning message will ask to confirm this permanent, not undoable operation.
Please note that some audio files may contain several tracks e. In this case, deleting permanently the audio file will remove all of its tracks from the database.
This is stated in a special warning message as shown in the example below:. Metadata ediEng The metadata for a track, multiple tracks at a time, and an album can be edited by using the “Show Metadata” command of the View menu or Cmd I shortcut. This opens the metadata editor panel on the right of Audirvana Plus window, displaying the metadata of the selected items. Its contents are updated when the selection e. So the metadata panel can be used to show the detailed metadata of a track or album , even when not willing to edit it.
When any metadata value is modified, two buttons appear at the bottom of the metadata editor panel as shown above:. The corresponding audio file needs to be accessible for the save operation to work – Revert: shortcut Cmd. Discard any changes, and revert to the tracks previous values. It presents four blocks of metadata that can be collapsed or expanded by clicking on the Hide or Show button on the right of their header bar. Corresponding audio file name, and full path the full path can be hidden by clicking on the small triangle left of the file name.
Clicking on the arrow on the right of the path reveals the audio file in a Finder window. In order to avoid frequencies above the useful range and corresponding aliasing effects, the use of filters is essential.
The closer these filters are to the upper limit of perception, the greater their steepness must be. Such filters are possible on the digital level, but in turn cause sound degradation in the rendering.
In this sense, it is desirable and advisable to carry out filtering more flatly, which is why it is necessary to outsource it to areas far beyond audibility. These goals can be achieved by higher sampling frequencies and oversampling. If such operations are now performed with substandard material, the actual contents of the file will not be altered, but the aforementioned benefits of a more shallow filtering will be applied. Audirvana refrains from making corrections in the form of digital equalisation.
However the software can perform certain conversion options by itself, as already described, and sometimes can even remove them from the converter. There is the option of a possible sampling rate conversion with a high-quality algorithm from iZotope as well as adjustable filtering by SoX. The oversampling can also be shifted from the converter to the software. This is useful, for example, if you are listening via loudspeakers and want to use equalisation for spatial correction in the playback.
In principle, Reference 4 from Sonarworks can also be employed here to linearise your headphones, for example, or speakers. The player itself provides the option to manage a large number of audio files as required, including search functions, playlists and even playlists that automatically expand as new files are added to appropriate folders.
Modifiable metadata and album covers are supported, along with a range of scaleable display formats. An Android version is currently under development. The aforementioned streaming portals are available directly via Audirvana. They are aimed at the audiophile market. However, I think it would be highly appreciated if platforms like Spotify or Amazon Music Unlimited were also supported.
As far as sound assessment is concerned, I can only refer to the day test run conducted with the demo version. The French manufacturer uses Audirvana to create an extremely practical technical basis and a front end for audiophile music enjoyment from your computer. The benefit of such a playback system, of course, depends on the speakers, headphones, loudspeakers, the location, the source material and last but not least, your own ears. You may want to allow yourself some time for sound comparisons.
To make things more difficult, you have to stop playback completely in order to change the rendering settings. Of course, Audirvana plays out its full strengths in a complete high-quality playback system.
Purism counts here, which does justice to the ideal of true sound reproduction according to HiFi standards and transfers this virtue to high-resolution files, including streaming. I’m also concerned by comments relating to issues of compatibility with the MacBook. I haven’t had any problems so far, but they would be a deal-breaker.
So at this early stage I am really like using Studio and will gladly pay the subscription rate if no tedious software issues. Good job Audirvana. I have used Audirvana for years, with iTunes and Qobuz. The move to a subscriber model doesn’t bother me. But the pricing does, somewhat. Qobuz on its own provides significant value for me.
Audirvana does not alone in comparison. So, if push comes to shove I’ll ditch Audirvana. A shame. It’s the pricing, not necessarily the subscription model that’s the critical decision for developers, and their customers. And the perceived value. Otherwise I use the Qobuz player for convenience. Thus the subscriber model can be costly. On the other hand. I have multiple Audirvana licenses to cover multiple machines that I use exclusively.
If not, the monthly cost of using Audirvana across my machines would not be worth it. Good luck folks at Audirvana!
Wunderhorn May 15 Looks like this is going to subscription-only. What a slap in the face to their customers. Audirvana is DEAD to me now.
Audirvana 3. It sounds so good. The better your system the more you will love it. It does great things for all music lovers. You can try it for 30 days so you have nothing to lose and it is well worth the price. It completely changes the game on streaming boxes because you don’t have to spend thousands.
You can use a good computer and then bypass its internal audio settings and let Audirvana use its own control which will keep the music and say goodbye to the internal computer noise. Think I’m joking? Decades long audiophile and you have a free trial for 30 days. So what do you have to lose? Go for it! Search is so slow I would call it non-functional. Allowing my mouse pointer to even touch an active window sets the beach ball spinning for several minutes. The user experience and interface have also been thoroughly redesigned, taking into account the numerous suggestions received by customers during a major survey conducted last year.
Over time it has developed and improved into a unique technology, becoming the ultimate digital audio playback software for all music professionals and enthusiasts.

I get zero enjoyment from it. Maclover Jul 3 Apple Music cannot display most of my artwork which sucks sooooo bad Audirvana shows them all..
I’d give it 5 stars if the UI wasn’t so bad.. It looks cheezy as does the logo and is not well thought-out. It feels like there is no real UI designer in that team. The website looks homemade as well.. I bought Audirvana after a trial because of its really good sound quality.
But after using it for 5 months I have to say that it has become so slow that I cannot use it without swearing anymore. Every time you click into an album and then go back to the main list, you get the spinning wheel. When you scroll up and down the lists, you get the spinning wheel. I mean c’mon guy at Audirvana, upon a little bit of googling, you see so many reports of people complaining about how SLOW your software is.
Can’t you just fix it? I am using the latest 3. I really can’t recommend this product. On my Macbook, half the time I use it, the music doesn’t connect to my amp or speakers, just plays through my computer. I haven’t found any troubleshooting answers.
There is no contact information on their website. What kind of company would not provide contact information to their customers??? What kind of people are these? The best I have heard on my Mac Air. Great together with the Dragonfly DAC!
This is a great application if you want to hear your music in the best possible quality quality. I tried several others, but this one is the best and it also could stream your music to UPnP-devices, like the ultraRendu. RunHomeSlow Oct 11 If you got ears, you gotta listen! If you want to use Audio Units with this, which is why I bought it many years ago and it ran flawlessly you can forget about it. It simply doesn’t work with AU engaged.
No sound. I figured it was a bug they’d sort out so I left it over a year before updating and they haven’t fixed it. Check their support forum and you’ll see its the same with everyone. Worst customer response I’ve come across in a long time. To know that their product fails in one vital area and just leave it broken for years when it’s a unique selling point. I’m speechless. Now I’ll spend all day tomorrow trying to go back to a 2 year old version that worked.
DragonMaster Sep 8 Got it and love it! I have over 14, albums onboard and it handles them all quickly and accurately. My only issue is that you cannot access your Mac’s volume control when this app is running.
Aside fro that I find it to be a remarkable audio app! Oh yes, it works on Catalina with no issues at all. RunHomeSlow Sep 8 Yes most helpful version comment is for 2. I own the Plus version and downloaded the latest upon release.
I use it with a high end studio quality audio interface and I possess a lot of Audio Unit plugins. This was never a problem for the old version, but now it simply won’t play a single track. I have contacted support whose sole advice was to trash all preferences and download the app again.
Same thing, no sound. Evgin Dec 10 Rikyman Mar 3 No other App for audio in my system can accomplish the quality Audirvana can whit my DAC, the interface is not beautiful but the sound is fantastic.
Wie letztes Jahrhundert. Skooks57 Jan 12 I have the “Plus” version and just updated to 3. It produces good sound, but it does not load my music library properly.
